As the sacred river Ganges flows from the snow-clad Himalayas into the vast plains, halfway between Delhi and Calcutta it curves into a gentle crescent, and along that crescent lies India's holiest city, Varanasi. According to legend, it said to have been the first city to be created on the Earth! Varanasi is the city that enshrines the very essence of Hinduism.
Sometimes still called Banaras, it has been acknowledged to be the oldest continually occupied city in the world. Home to some of the most ancient and revered monasteries in India and perhaps the world, this is the place where Hindu scholars still come to learn the ancient knowledge of the Vedas and debate on the nature of God. And this is also the city where countless Hindus come to die, believing that by being cremated at Mani-Karnika Ghat at Varanasi they will immediately attain reincarnation. So it is also the holiest destination of Hindu pilgrimages. Seeing and photographing the thousands of faithful who daily come to Varanasi to take a ritual dip in the river Ganges, to cleanse their souls of sins and to worship at its many temples, is something never to be forgotten. We will be able to photograph this incredible spectacle from our private boat.
