The Giant Redwoods of Northern California are a treat and a challenge to photograph. They are mammoth, textured, shadowy forms, symbolic of primal nature. As delicate splashes of color interwoven among them in the spring, the pink and white blooms of the rhododendrons are the perfect visual counterpoint to the dark strength of the redwoods. Whether in black and white or color, whether in the tradition of Ansel Adams or Eliot Porter, images of the redwoods have always been among the strongest and most effective in any portfolio. There is just something about them that affects both the photographer and his photographs.
This workshop is appropriate for all formats and all media. You will photograph the major sites in Northern California, including the groves in Humboldt Redwoods State Park, Avenue of the Giants, and Redwood National Park.
