China is opening up and disappearing at the same time. As it becomes dominant in the world economy, its cities and people become more and more indistinguishable from those of other developed countries. The typical tourist hot spots—the Great Wall, the Forbidden City—will endure while the old towns of Beijing and Shanghai have essentially disappeared already.
This is a tour of highlights. Beginning with the fabulous army of Qin Shi Huangdi immortalized as terracotta soldiers in Xi'an in the 2nd century BC, we will move through China to its major monument of the 21st century, the city by the sea, Shanghai. In between, we will photograph as many as three different locations along the Great Wall for multiple sunrises and sunsets. Our tour of Bejing includes photographing several locations in the Forbidden City, Tian'an Men Square, the Temple of Heaven, and even the Summer Palace. And we will also have a chance to photograph at one of China's most famous scenic locations, the Yellow Mountains that have inspired artists and poets for centuries.
This trip will be led by Joe Englander. The tour starts in Xi’an and ends in Shanghai. You should make your international travel arrangements to and from those locations.
