Bhutan is what people imagine Tibet to be. The best of Bhutan represents the last unspoiled remnants of the quickly disappearing Himalayan culture and environment. The culture of Himalayan Buddhism, not only as a religion but as a unified way of life, inspires calm, openness, warmth, and happiness on the part of its people, making it a delight to be among them and a privilege to photograph there. Villages are centered around temples where paintings, carvings, mandalas, and religious scrolls gleam within dim, incense-filled rooms, where the hypnotic chanting of monks murmurs through balconied courtyards.
While our Bhutan tours generally try to cover the cultural and religious centers of this beautiful country, this trip is designed to center on the center: we will be primarily in the center of the country in Bumthang.
Getting to the center means that we will be traversing several mountain passes and some really glorious forests filled with blooming rhododendrons of many colors. At the center, we be attending a small religious festival known for its authenticity, for its colorful handmade masks, complicated dances, and beautifully embroidered silk robes We will be staying near several very important monasteries and, of course, will be photographing at them as well.
